About
The story behind Latonen Media.
Latonen Media is a brand name used by Yannick Schuurmans, or literally “Janne Latonen” in Finnish, for photography and videography services. While I primarily work independently on a freelance basis, I collaborate with others for larger projects whenever needed.
Originally, I’m from the Netherlands, but in summer 2021, I moved to Finland for studies. By now, I understand a lot of the finnish language and can follow most conversations, mutta on vaikea puhua… After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I spent several years working as an environmental engineer. Over time, I shifted my focus and began exploring opportunities to establish a career in the creative industry.
Creativity and photography have always played a significant role in my life. Growing up with parents who had a background in photonics (the physics of light), I was surrounded by cameras. Alongside photography, I was also surrounded by other forms of art, such as music.
My interest in photography truly took off when my grandmother lent me her old DSLR camera to use during a vacation in Spain. I was 12 years old at the time and spent the holiday capturing photos to create a calendar as a gift in return. I never stopped taking pictures & videos after.
What started as capturing vacation memories evolved into event photography, then team portraits, and now… Well you tell me? What would you like to see me create next?
